What is a Missional Methodist
Posted July 23rd, 2007 by DavidAs I think about this new site and what I believe it should be I find myself asking, what is a missional Methodist anyway? I also add to that, What is a missional Methodist movement? Why am I creating this site?I'm not going to go in detail here, but at this point, I believe a missional Methodist is someone who has decided to live in a certain way. They might be a pastor or they might not be. They believe that God has sent them into the world. They believe that God is wanting to fix broken places visiting those places and people with redemption. In fact, they believe that God is already busy working and they want to be a part of it.Why a movement? A movement is needed because people need to find each other. Those who are living missionally while being Methodist could be a source of encouragement and perhaps challenge to each other. It would be wonderful to have a place to meet up, talk, dream and connect. I hope this can serve to get the ball rolling.I also sense a need to have some ground rules, but I'm not sure what that would be yet. I'm thinking that it would be good for all of us to live by some sort of covenant or Rule. Wesley did this, so we know it is very Methodist. We could covenant around practicing disciples, attending to the means of grace and joining missional communities (or starting them)...basically forming our lives around a Rule or covenant. Why do this? If we don't live by some rule then there isn't anything that distinguishes the movement from those who just show up in church each Sunday and don't move beyond the worship service. We could allow membership to this site, only if people agree to live by the covenant. I'm still thinking about it..... Powered by ScribeFire.
